Company founder Hansruedi Richner inducted in Swiss Supply Chain Hall of Fame

The Swiss Supply Chain Hall of Fame announced that Hansruedi Richner, company founder of M+R Spedag Group and father of Daniel Richner, Chairman of the Board, has been posthumously inducted. This prize has been awarded since 2015 and he is one of only 20 recipients to date who have received this honor. Amongst them are Louis Danzas who founded Danzas in 1815, Alfred Escher, who initiated the building of the Gotthard tunnel, Gottlieb Duttweiler, the founder of Migros, the biggest supermarket chain in Switzerland, Adolf Ogi, former member of the Swiss government as transport minister or famous logistics entrepreneurs like the Galliker and the Bertschi families.

The award is based on the two outstanding innovations that Hansruedi Richner initiated and characterizes his visionary mind and entrepreneurship.

First is the integration of customs procedures in all cargo moves across borders. It started in the early 1950s with his initiative to allow trucks to cross the border without having to unload and present the goods to customs. This cut the transit time in half and was the beginning of our fast growth in European overland business. M+R Spedag Group has since been a partner of the Swiss customs authorities and sparring partner for all pilot projects.

The second was his vision to offer end to end supply chain solutions for textile customers sourcing in East Asian production countries. In 1985 M+R Spedag Group opened own offices in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. Plus doing the fine distribution, partly on hangers, from a dedicated distribution center in the heart of Switzerland showed his vision to offer true supply chain solutions when this term did not really exist yet.

This innovation mentality, focused on customer satisfaction and operational excellence, still forms the solid base for M+R Spedag Group’s ongoing success.
