Charity 2010
Each Year, M+R Spedag Group selects and supports a charitable organization. For 2010, Uganda based "Reach Out Mbuya" has been selected.
The Reach Out Mbuya non-profitable organization was founded by the "Our Lady of Africa Church Mbuya" in Kampala, Uganda. The aim of the organization is to provide help and support to people affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. They provide what they call a holistic model of care that not only offers medical aid but also includes other forms of support.
The activities are split into 3 segments:
Medical Care
The organization maintains 3 medical clinics in Kampala. People with HIV infection are being treated by local and internationally trained doctors and professional nursing staff. The clinics also screen and provide treatment for viral infections such as tuberculosis and meningitis, and offer programs for the prevention of Mother-to-Child HIV transmission.
Community Support
A number or projects are aimed at the community as a whole, including HIV/AIDS prevention campaigns, programs aimed at reducing the stigma of HIV/AIDS, counselling services for HIV infected people and their families, etc.
Social Support
Reach Out maintains various programs such as the "Bread for Life" micro financing project, aimed at helping participants to achieve self-sustainability by taking up or expanding income-generating activities. Another example is the "Operation School Fees" which provides educational support for families and children.
Reach Out Mbuya was founded in 2001. Today, the parish counts several thousand members. In April 2006 the organization was officially granted NGO status by the government of Uganda.
